On every mind there’s a rush for growth. The 'growth' that helps accomplish all the goals. The mesmerizing factor about growth is that it brings energy, passion, perseverance, innovation, ideas, and what not, out of a person. But growth doesn’t come easy; it’s not a cup of tea that you savour in the morning. Growth demands extreme hard work and a never-give-up attitude. It brings with it heightened failures and hardships. To grow higher and better one needs to be resilient.

The ‘Growth’ I refer to involves personal and professional development - development of talents, skills, capabilities, identity and self-worth which is fundamentally important to enhance one’s quality of life and realization of dreams.

I read something really interesting and truthful on the internet (professional networking site) recently, it was from great psychologists and research experts. They surveyed children, adults, students, professionals from different educational institutions and organizations. The purpose of their research was to find out what made an individual better and successful than the rest in a challenging setting. The research found out that it wasn’t social intelligence, good looks, physical health, and not even ‘IQ’ which made an individual successful. The psychologist-cum-researcher, Angela Lee Duckworth, comprehends “one characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success” and “it was Grit”. She explains “Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals”.

Grit is resilience, grit is learning from mistakes, grit is dealing with failures and emerging stronger and capable. Grit is NEVER GIVING UP. Recruiters who make smart decisions while hiring candidates, primarily, look for strong and determined attitudes for growth and success. Apparently, individuals with grit manage challenges and mitigate risks with hard-core determination.

The leaders across the world are doing what they are doing because they have the grit. Successful writers, singers, actors, painters, business tycoons, etc. have all faced numerous failures in their careers/lives yet we look up to them in admiration. They are our inspirations. Why do you think they have reached where they are today? The answer is simple, they never gave up. They kept trying and growing constantly. They believed in their goals, dreams, and visions than their failures, discouragements and break-downs. They wanted to grow, change, succeed, inspire and they have done it!

We all are aware that there’s no learning without mistakes, no success without failures and today I want you to know that there’s no growth without deciding to grow. Thus, GROWTH IS A DECISION. Decide to learn everything that you need to learn, decide to know everything that you wish to know, decide to wake up for the sake of your dreams, decide to be a change for those who desire it and most important, decide to succeed to make a difference in people’s lives but not just for your own personal growth.

Dear reader, It’s never too late to do what you want to do, to accomplish what you want to accomplish, to see yourself standing in that esteemed position, to see yourself sitting on that esteemed chair of authority and responsibility, to see yourself satisfying and fulfilling needs of so many lives for good. I remember a quote I find funny and motivating at the same time, and it goes like this “If you don’t like where you are, move. You’re not a tree”.

The most important element to succeed is a “Growth mindset”. Having ‘growth’ constantly on mind irrespective of heart-breaking failures is what one needs. And grit is the outcome of the Growth mindset. Do not be sluggish with your dreams they aren’t going to be realized all by themselves; it’s you who’s got to do it. Never lose the vision of your dreams otherwise you’ll be stuck where you’re afraid to see yourself forever. It is going to be a terrifying nightmare!

Gather all the sources of learning that will help you grow, connect with people who can and will inspire you, know where you can accumulate knowledge and resources, lo and behold! You’re all set to go, you’re unstoppable!
